Fabulous large vintage Turkish carpet from central Anatolia. Overall condition is very good with only a little light wear.
The colors include a violet grape, olive green and burgundy with white, red, green and blue highlights. The grape has softened over the years.
Woven from 100% natural wool. Exact size is 11 ft. 3 in by 6 ft. 10 in. 1960s.
Impressive size for this style of village rug, which are often woven as a wedding dowry or as an important family centerpiece. Most likely woven around Taspinar.
Taspinar is located in central Turkey just south of the world famous region of Cappadocia– one of Turkey’s most touted tourist destinations. It is also located fairly close to Konya, which has been a source of illustrious Turkish carpets for several centuries.
This design combines bold geometric elements with displays of plants and foliage.
Somewhat of a supple weave so a simple mesh pad can help keep it in place on slippery tile or hardwood if there is a lot of foot traffic.
