Description

Vintage tribal gabbeh rug woven in traditional beige and brown colors using a mix of un-dyed wools.

Very good overall condition with some scattered wear and a small repair. Some wear on one of the corners. No holes or weak areas, and the rug is solid.

Woven by the Qashqai of southwest Iran in the Zagros Mountains.

Woven from 100% natural wool. The fringes are woven from goat or horse hair.

Exact size is 10 ft. 2 in. by 5 ft. 5 in. 1940s.

Gabbeh rugs were woven by the Qashqai and related Persian tribal groups for local use. They generally have simplified field designs and basic color palettes, and were often used as sleeping rugs.

Gabbeh rugs are now one of the most popular and widely copied of all the Persian tribal rug motifs.

This Qashqai carpet shows the expected traditional minimalist motif and simplified color palette.

Shipping will be $34 within the continental U.S. I might be able to offer a lower shipping price to buyers in nearby locales. Arranging a free pickup is a possible option, too.
