Description

Massively HEAVY Persian Heriz runner from NW Persia in excellent overall condition.

Heriz rugs are woven in the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran and are known for durability.

This an extremely thick rug — very dense and heavy. No signs of any wear. There are a couple of small areas of faint blue dye pickup from when the rug was washed. (This is shown in photos.)

This is a perfect rug for someone needing a large runner that will not be knocked around by large dogs, active children, etc. Perfect for near an entrance or any active foot traffic area of the home. Nobody kicks Heriz rugs around.

Primary colors are light brown, tan, brick red, white, green, orange, and blue.

This carpet will last a hundred years or your money back.

Natural wool woven onto natural cotton. Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the back of the rug.

Exact size is 15 ft. 2 in. by 3 ft. 11 in. 1960s.

Heriz rugs are well known for their durability and have been popular with collectors for over a century.

These rugs are produced in the villages scattered across the slopes of Mount Sabalan, northeast of Tabriz.

One of the alleged reasons for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan is sitting on a major deposit of copper. Trace copper in the drinking water of the sheep supposedly produces high quality wool. The copper makes the wool stronger and far more resilient than wool from other areas (so the claim goes).

Heriz rugs originate in towns such as Ahar, Heris, Mehraban, Sarab, Serapi, Bakhshaish, and Gorevan.

This is an extremely thick and heavy rug. Shipping will be $69 within the continental U.S.  Arranging a free pickup is a possible option, too.
