    $329.00

Very old diamond motif Josheghan village rug!

    Out of stock

    Description

Old vintage geometric Persian Josheghan rug featuring their traditional diamond and medallion motif on a crimson red field.

The rug was handwoven in the Josheghan area of central Iran, and is sometimes sold under the name of the nearby town of Maymeh. (They are occasionally copied in India but the quality does not compare to the Persian carpets.)

Condition is good with scattered pile wear from decades of use. The fringes and side cords are in excellent condition. Bright cheerful colors including greens, yellow, teal, grape, burnt orange, blue, brown, black and red.

Wonderful village abrash (variegation in color due to changes in dye batches) in the medallion, which ranges from deep blue to grape. Abrash creates a painterly effect in rugs; iy is one of the skills of an accomplished weaver whose ‘canvas’ is cotton and whose ‘paints’ are natural wool.

Despite the moderate wear there are no holes or weakened areas, and this carpet can be used in a high foot traffic area of the house, including near an entrance.

Last photo shows the back of the rug.

The exact size is 7 ft. 3 in. by 4 ft. 5 in. 1940s. Natural wool pile on cotton warp.

Shipping will be $34 within continental U.S.
