Description

Vibrant Kurdish village rug from Senneh, which is now known as Sanandaj (the dense weave is similar to a Bijar). Sanandaj is located in northwest Iran near the border with Iraq. The Gurani are the primary Kurdish tribe in the area.

Because of the dense weave this a heavy and solid rug that can be placed anywhere, including a high traffic area of the home. Excellent overall condition with a small wear spot on one of the cotton corners.

Wonderful geometric triple medallion, intricate Herati field motif, and a wide border with a crab shaped design. Natural wool on natural cotton. 1960s. Exact size is 6 ft. by 4 ft. 1 in.

Within the two end medallions is a Herati design; within the white central medallion, a boteh pattern. Both of these are traditional Senneh motifs used by Kurdish weavers in the region.

Shipping is $34 within the U.S. as this rug is quite heavy for its size.
