Description

Embellished tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Iran.

Very good overall condition with minor wear across the wool pile. No holes or weak spots. The wool is somewhat bunched and wrinkled on the back of the rug, but this is not notable on the front of the rug when it is rolled out for use.

Qashqai rugs are often of a similar size, sharing many identical elements; nonetheless, each carpet is a unique piece of tribal art.

This carpet is quite solid and would work extremely wool in a high foot traffic area of the home.

A geometric rug woven with traditional Qashqai medallions, as well as stylized flowers, leaves and and several tree-of-life motifs.

The carpet also displays four white horse heads woven around the central medallion.

Although they look like knights from a game of chess, these horse heads are linked to the statuary of the ancient city of Persepolis, a place where the Qasqhai traditionally grazed their sheep and horses.

Burnt orange, green, white, and black, are the primary colors.

Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug.

The exact size is 8 ft. 6 in. by 5 ft. 4 in. 1960s.

The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century. Another confederation — the Khamseh (number 5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.

Shipping will be $55 within the continental U.S.
