Description
Wonderful medallion runner with an elaborate repeating stylized peacock design that goes back well into the 19th century and probably earlier.
This motif is a traditional type woven in the Akstafa area of Azerbaijan.
Overall condition is very good with some minor wear from normal use in a few areas.
Handwoven from 100% natural wool. Fringes and side cords are in excellent shape.
Exact size is 10 ft. 3 in. by 3 ft. 9 in. 1960s.
Solid for its size. No holes or weak spots, and it can be used in a high foot traffic area. Although not an antique, a fabulous Soviet era Caucasian carpet.
Last photo with coin shows the backside of the rug.
A wonderful tribal textile from a region known for producing some of the finest handwoven rugs in the world, the the Caucasian carpets of Azerbaijan. Out of my personal collection.
