Traditional Lenkoran Caucasian motif runner in excellent vintage condition.
Main colors are black field with red, green, white and a hot pink. Interesting animal icons, which could be sheep, goat, or dogs.
Very little signs of wear on the wool pile. Fringes and side cords are in great shape. The carpet is a little wider at one end than the other by a couple of inches.
The rug is dated and signed. Looks like 1340 in the Persian calendar, which would be 1961 in the Western. (The 4 could be a 6 as they are similar.)
Natural wool on cotton warp and weft.
Exact size is 12 ft. 3 in. by 3 ft. 5 in.
Heavy and solid for its size, and can be used in a high foot traffic area of the home.
Lenkoran is located on the Caspian on the southeast corner of Azerbaijan. The Lenkoran rug characteristically has a series of “tortoise” figures, represented as repeating medallions down the center of the carpet. The ground or field color is usually dark.
Shipping within the continental U.S. will $34.
