Description

Eye-catching vintage handwoven Bukhara rug in excellent overall condition.

Fairly rare pea green field color. The motif is based on the tribal Turkoman rugs (probably a tribal Tekke design), which are typically reddish brown and woven from 100% wool.

Although somewhat similar designs are woven in other countries throughout central Asia, as well as Iran and Turkey, this carpet was woven in Pakistan.

The cotton fringes and side cords are in great shape.

The Bukhara motif is one of the most popular in the world and is based on a repeating pattern of highly stylized tribal guls (flowers or roses in Turkish and Farsi). In the 19th century the British exported these rugs out of the city of Bukhara, in present day Uzbekistan, and the name of the city became associated with the design.

Woven from 100% natural wool with cotton warp and weft. Tightly knotted and trimmed short to show off the design.

Exact size is 6 ft. 3 in. by 4 ft. 4 in. 1970s.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the weaving on the backside of the rug.

Shipping will be $34 within the continental U.S.
