Description

Amazing Caucasian Cloudband motif on a thick piled rug in mint condition.

Traditional tribal mountain goat and deer icons beside the large ‘cloud band’ medallions.

Antique incarnations of this motif often sell for thousands of dollars. Generally known as ‘cloudband’ rugs or ‘cloudband Kazaks’, they are often attributed to the village of Chondzoresk in the Caucasus region. Other experts attribute their origin to Armenian or Azerbaijani weavers.

This is a late 20th century weaving, not an antique, but beautifully woven and all the dyes are high quality. Most likely from the Karabakh Azerbaijan region or far eastern Anatolia.

Sometimes the sinuous bands are labeled as snakes or serpents. The original motif may have been inspired by truly ‘Far Eastern’ Oriental rugs–Chinese or Tibetan– that made their way via trade to the Caucausus.

100% luxurious thick natural wool. Fairly heavy for its size and could be used in a high foot traffic area of the home.

Exact size is 8 ft. by 4 ft. 2 in. 1970s-1980s.

A great choice for someone looking for a classic Caucasian motif rug in excellent condition at one tenth the price. Small area of wear on the fringe in one corner otherwise mint condition.

Shipping is $43 within continental U.S.
