Description

Elegant handwoven Caucasian rug from the north Caucasus Mountains, most likely Soviet Dagestan or Chechnya.

These areas are still part of the Russian Federation, while many former Soviet Republics in the Caucasus, such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia are now countries.

Lots of green! With soft browns, beige, tans, and a very muted burnt orange.

A simple geometric repeating medallion motif with wide intricate borders.

Recently professionally washed. Out of a European estate.

Excellent overall condition with very little signs of wear on the wool pile. There is minor wear on the cotton fringes (shown in CU photos). The side cords are also in excellent shape.

The carpet is finely woven from natural wool on natural cotton warp.

Exact size is 5 ft. by 2 ft. 7 in. 1960s – 1970s.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of the rug.
