Mesmerizing antique Caucasian Zeichour rug.

Description

Antique Caucasian Zeichour Shirvan rug (also spelled Seychour, Seychor and Seichur) in excellent condition with almost no signs of wear on the wool pile. (At one time the rug was displayed on a wall with threaded loops, which have been removed.)

The fringes have very minor wear.

Additionally, just to add complexity to the nomenclature, this particular motif on antique and vintage Caucasian rugs is sometimes known as the St. Andrews Cross –because of its similarity to the eponymous emblem.

All natural vegetable dyes with the possible exception of a single red — out of several reds. Bold indigo blue, gold, and light blue is featured throughout the rug, standing out on the ivory white field.

The carpet has an elaborate sextet of borders, including a star border and a wide prominent border known colorfully as a ‘running dog’ border. Border colors include a lovely olive or sage green.

Artfully woven village rug with a mesmerizing design.

Natural wool on natural cotton.

Exact size is 8 ft. 9 in. by 5 ft. 2 in. 1930s.

Zeichour carpets are related to Kuba rugs, and originated in the region between Azerbaijan and Russian Dagestan.
