Description
Chinese green rug with gold border, butterflies, and nectar sipping bats! Amazing Buddhist symbols and auspicious decorations.
Condition is mint with no signs of wear.
This rug is thick and heavy for its size and could be placed in a high foot traffic area. The combination of design elements and colors makes this carpet a fabulous piece of textile art.
Only on Chinese rugs, some over a hundred years, do you ever find the amazing little flying mammals known as bats. Although many bats are insectivorous, and only three species vampiric–despite all those Dracula movies, bats are generally maltreated and threatened by human beings. Many bats play a comparable role to bees in their ecological involvement in spreading pollen among flowering plants.
What is interesting is that flowers that depend on bats for pollination are typically pale in coloration, fairly similar to the flowers you find depicted on this amazing rug.
Natural wool on natural cotton. This is an excellent size for most rooms at 8 ft. by 4 ft. Probably woven in the 1970s.
Although it shows some influence by Nichols era rugs, and Tibetan and Nepalese textiles, this carpet was woven in the People’s Republic of China well after the 1949 revolution.
Shipping is $55 for this very solid rug.
