Gabbeh rugs were originally woven by the Qashqai and related Persian tribal groups for local use. They generally have simplified field designs and basic color palettes, and were often used as sleeping rugs.

Gabbeh carpets are now one of the most popular and widely copied of all the Persian tribal rug motifs as they mesh well with contemporary, Southwestern and mid century modern decors.
