Description

Gorgeous traditional Persian carpet from Kashan, Iran. Kashan is a major city between Qom and Kerman in the center of Iran. It is close to the city of Isfahan and the carpets share many similarities.

Overall condition is excellent with only light pile wear. The last photo, with Morgan silver dollar, shows the back of the rug. There are no holes or weak spots in the rug, and no issues of concern.

The short fringes are in excellent condition as are the side cords. Structurally the rug is quite solid and durable, and can be used in a high foot traffic area or placed under a dining room table.

Kashan weavers prefer rich colors such as crimson, turquoise, and indigo blue, and this rug features all of these as well as ivory and green and several accent colors from brown to salmon.

This is the kind of motif — a central medallion, elegant corners, and an arabesque of swirling vines and flowers — that most people envision for a Persian carpet.

Tightly woven from natural wool and natural cotton. 1960s. Exact size is 11 ft. 1 in by 8 ft.

“Kashan is a city in the Isfahan province of Iran. Kashan is the first of the large oases along the Qom-Kerman road which runs along the edge of the central deserts of Iran. Its charm is thus mainly due to the contrast between the parched immensities of the deserts and the greenery of the well-tended oasis. Archeological discoveries in the Sialk Hillocks which lie 2.5 miles (4 km) west of Kashan reveal that this region was one of the primary centers of civilization in pre-historic ages. Hence Kashan dates back to the Elamite period of Iran. The Sialk ziggurat still stands today in the suburbs of Kashan after 7000 years. After world known Iranian historical cities such as Isfahan and Shiraz, Kashan is a common destination for foreign tourists due to numerous historical places.”

Shipping is $99 for most destinations as the rug is large and heavy. If you are located closer to California then there may be a shipping refund as I try to avoid overcharging.
