Description

Now for something a little different!

Perfect for your office wall or floor. Let your boss know that too much abuse may have consequences….

Handmade Soviet era LENIN rug. Created by tribal Kirghiz or Kazakh weavers in Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan. Most likely made in late 1960s to honor the centennial of Lenin’s birth — which was 1970.

Lenin was born as Vladimir Illyich Ulyanov in the city of Simbirsk on the Volga River. He was the primary architect of the Bolshevik Revolution and became the ‘founding father’ of the Soviet Union. He lived from 1870 to 1924.

Lenin rugs are rare and collectible, and most of them are machine made. This is handmade from natural wool on cotton.

Very good overall condition with some minor wear at the top end of the rug. Very sharp looking modernist tie!

Out of my personal collection; I imported it from Uzbekistan about 15 years ago.

Exact size is 6 ft. 2 in. by 5 ft. 3 in. with fairly thick wool pile. This is a large rug compared to most of the Lenin commemorative carpets.

Bright bold colors–including revolutionary red, black, white, gold, tan, purple and green, with elegant floral borders.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the back of this handwoven carpet.

Excellent opportunity to acquire a remarkable and unique historical rug woven in the Soviet Union. This rug can work fine on the floor, it’s quite solid, but would also make a great wall hanging. There are old sewn loops on the back of the rug for that purpose.

Thank you.
