Enchanting vintage full pile Persian Malayer runner with extraordinary colors including olive green, gold, salmon, burnt orange, blue, white, gold, black and brick red.
The rug features stylized leaves and flowers on a dark field with color abrash (variegation in color due to changes in dye batches). Abrash creates a painterly effect quite distinct from the formal monochromatic urban workshop carpets of Iran.
Condition is excellent with little signs of wear on the wool pile. The wool is relatively thick and plush. The side cords and fringes are in very good shape.
Natural wool on natural cotton. 1960s.
Exact size is 10 ft. 3 in. by 5 ft. 5 in.
Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of the carpet.
Malayer region rugs demonstrate excellent variety and quality, and are highly regarded by collectors. Malayer (also Malayir) is south of Hamadan and west of Arak. These rugs share much with Sarouk rugs but they are more diverse and imaginative.
Shipping is $55 within the continental U.S.
