Description

Traditional medallion and bird carpet in excellent condition. Almost no signs of wear anywhere on the rug.

This motif originated in the Caucasus and the stylized animals or birds, four of them prominently surrounding each medallion, are generally considered to be the iconic peacock. Although not an antique, this is a dazzling rendition of an ancient design.

“The peacock has a lineage associated with nobility and abundance. Its colorful plumes are regal, and suggest a level of beauty and splendor that is at once heavenly, and yet manifests on the earth.”

However, the large iconic figures also bear remarkable similarity to the ancient  griffin that appeared in Minoan and Greek mythology and was well known across Persia and the Middle East.

The entire rug, including warp & weft, is woven from 100% natural wool. The primary filed color is a light butter ivory with yellow, blue, olive, green, and a soft brick red.

Exact size is 7 ft. 2 in. by 4 ft. 8 in. 1970s – 1980s.

Woven in the region between Kars and Karabagh, and generally considered as eastern Anatolia.

Shipping is $34 within U.S.
