Unusual Persian Afshari Carpet with Classic Motif

Out of stock

Description

Woven by the Afshar tribe, this vintage traditional geometric rug is from the Sirjan region of Iran.

Afshar weavers have been creating an eye-catching version of this motif going back at least into the 19th century. This one features a white and blue medallion motif on a crimson field. Tree-of-life designs run along the sides of the carpet.

Thick wool pile with only minor wear. The main design is slightly asymmetrical as the central medallions are off center, which you can see in the photos. It makes the carpet a little quirky and perhaps more interesting — although some people will be uneasy with the lack of symmetry.

Wool woven onto cotton warp and weft. The rug is solid and can be placed in an area of high foot traffic.

Exact size is 7 ft. 4 in. by 5 ft. 5 in. 1960s.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of the rug.

Shipping is $43 although it may be less to nearer locations. Also, it is possible to arrange free pickup.
