Description

Rare antique Tabriz carpet displaying an intricate kaleidoscopic bird motif!

Wonderful detail in the numerous mirrored bird images!

Condition is very worn. However, despite the substantial and general wear, all across the rug, the carpet remains surprisingly solid. Classic tightly knotted Tabriz rugs are astoundingly tough and resilient.

This carpet has been recently professionally washed.

Perfect choice for someone who doesn’t mind wear and wants to place a rug near an entrance or in a high foot traffic area of the home.

Tabriz rugs are solid and well constructed, and again–- despite the extensive wear — this one can be used in a high foot traffic area or near an entrance.

Wool pile on cotton warp and weft. Tabriz rugs are cut short by the weavers to showcase the details but they are rugged and durable.

Exact size is 4 ft. 9 in. by 3 ft. 3 in. 1930s.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of the carpet.

Tabriz produces a large number of handmade rugs — most of which are easy to distinguish from the carpets of other major rug weaving centers in Iran and Turkey.

Tabriz carpets are part of the Azerbaijan weaving tradition within modern Persia. Located in northwest Iran, Tabriz is the capital city of East Azerbaijan Province and is largely populated by ‘ethnic’ Azeri or Azerbaijanis. It is one of the oldest rug weaving centers in the world and makes a huge diversity of types of handmade rugs.

The rugs of Tabriz are among the most beautiful and most desirable of antique Persian rugs, and have been manufactured in the Azeri speaking area of Northern Iran continuously for centuries.
