Description

Fantastic vintage Heriz carpet in excellent overall condition.

Almost no signs of wear on the wool pile. Very minor wear and yellowing on the cotton fringes of one end. The side cords in great shape.

The carpet is out of a European estate. Natural wool woven onto natural cotton structure.

The rug is fairly thick and can be used in a high foot traffic area of the home.

Main colors are white, several shades of blue, red, gold, and an olive green. Traditional wide Heriz borders. The photos are taken in natural daylight.

Exact size is 9 ft. 8 in. by 6 ft. 9 in. 1950s — 1960s. The rug has been professionally end-stopped to protect from weft unravel (visible in the last photo showing the backside of the rug).

Mesmerizing ‘Old World’ art for your floor!

The Heriz or Serapi medallion design is one of the most popular in the world. This motif favors a large central medallion and a wide border.

These rugs are well known for their durability and have been popular with collectors for over a century. Natural wool woven onto natural cotton.

This is an authentic Heriz rug woven in the Land of Enchantment, near the Caspian Sea and the slopes of majestic Mount Sabalan.

One of the alleged reasons for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan is sitting on a major deposit of copper. Trace copper in the drinking water of the sheep supposedly produces high quality wool. The copper makes the wool stronger and far more resilient than wool from other areas (so the claim goes).

Heriz rugs originate in towns such as Ahar, Heris, Mehraban, Sarab, Serapi, Bakhshaish, and Gorevan.
