Description

Amazing one of a kind Persian tribal rug from Northwest Iran. With an open red field it has the look and feel of a gabbeh rug.

The primary red field displays rich village abrash (variegation in color due to changes in wool dye batches). Additional colors include green, purple, black, rust, and white.

With great artistry, the weaver has included colorful details in her renderings of the deer. The pinkish red on the white chests of two of the deer, which might seem to be a small bleed, is made from carefully dyed wool. Small lines of white cotton were woven in to add more interesting details, and the eyes and antlers were carefully crafted.

The overall condition is excellent with some minor spots of wear on the wool pile. Fringes and side cords are in great shape.

Based on the weave it appears to be from a village in the East Azerbaijan Province, which is where the world renowned Heriz carpets are crafted.

Very thick and solid carpet that can be placed in a high foot traffic area of the home.

Natural wool woven onto natural cotton.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the back of the rug.

Exact size is 6 ft. 11 in. by 5 ft. 2 in. 1960s.

Heriz rugs are woven in the villages scattered across the slopes of Mount Sabalan, northeast of Tabriz.

Shipping is $43 within the continental U.S.
