Heavy vintage village rug featuring a Herati field motif and floral borders.
The carpet was handwoven in the Hamadan district, which consists of a constellation of villages in central Iran that produce many of the finest tribal and geometric rugs in the world.
Condition is excellent with only minor wear. The fringes and side cords are also in fine condition.
Eye catching abrash (variegation in color from different wool dye batches), which is where you can see the banding in the various shades of reds and orange red. (Shown in a closeup). Weavers use this technique to create a painterly effect in a rug, breaking up monochromatic dullness.
Last photo shows the back of the rug.
This is a very SOLID carpet and can be placed in a high foot traffic area of the home.
The exact size is 8 ft. 7 in. by 4 ft. 9 in. 1970s. Natural wool pile on cotton warp.
