Old vintage Tabriz carpet displaying dancing deer among verdant foliage.
This rug was woven in northern Iran and deer and other animals are fairly uncommon in the textiles of Tabriz. Most of their rugs feature large central medallions and curvilinear floral motifs.
Out of a European estate and dates to the 1950s – 1960s. Rich color palette including several shades of green and blue.
Impressive and elegant Persian rug in very good overall condition. There are some small areas of notable wear on the wool pile but nothing major.
The fringes and side cords are in excellent shape. Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of the carpet.
Tabriz rugs are solid and well made, and this one can be used in a high foot traffic area or near an entrance without concern.
Wool pile on cotton warp and weft. Tabriz rugs are cut short by the weavers to showcase the details but they are rugged and durable.

Tabriz carpets are part of the Azerbaijan weaving tradition within modern Persia. Located in northwest Iran, Tabriz is the capital city of East Azerbaijan Province and is largely populated by ‘ethnic’ Azeri or Azerbaijanis. It is one of the oldest rug weaving centers in the world and makes a huge diversity of types of handmade rugs.
The rugs of Tabriz are among the most beautiful and most desirable of antique Persian rugs, and have been manufactured in the Azeri speaking area of Northern Iran continuously for centuries.
