Description

Mesmerizing old tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Iran.

Very good overall condition with some light wear on the wool pile. This is a relatively supple rug woven in the nomadic traditions of Iran.

A geometric rug woven with the traditional Khamseh medallions running down the center with tree-of-life motifs. The field is covered with small stylized birds, peacocks, and animals.

Khamseh weavers produce rugs similar to Qashqai rugs but in smaller numbers.

Red, white, orange and indigo blue are the primary colors. The carpet is out of a European estate.

Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug. The rug has been professionally ‘end-stopped’– which is a simple technique using thread to protect antique and vintage rugs from end loss.

The exact size is 8 ft. 3 in. by 6 ft. 4 in. 1950s.

The Khamseh (which means 5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai, another confederation of 5 tribal groups that banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century.

Shipping will be $34 within the continental U.S.
