Persian Village Malayer Rug — 7 ft. 6 in. by 4 ft. 7 in. ON HOLD

$315.00

Charming Persian Malayer or Lilihan vintage village rug!

Out of stock

Description

Enchanting vintage full pile Persian Malayer rug with extraordinary colors including several shades of brick red, green, salmon, black, gold, and blue.

The rug features stylized a central medallion surrounded by leaves and flowers on a brick red field. The rug design appears to have some Persian Lilihan influence as well.

The central medallion appears a little off center, part of the charm of rural village rugs is that are generally far more free form (visual jazz) than most urban workshop carpets.

Wonderful color abrash  in the reds (variegation in color due to changes in dye batches). Abrash creates a painterly effect quite distinct from the formal monochromatic urban workshop carpets of Iran.

Condition is excellent with only minor signs of wear on the wool pile. The wool is very thick and plush, and the rug is quite heavy for its size. The side cords and fringes are in great shape.

Natural wool on natural cotton. 1960s.

Exact size is 7 ft. 6 in. by 4 ft. 7 in.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of the carpet.

Malayer region rugs demonstrate excellent variety and quality, and are highly regarded by collectors. Malayer (also Malayir) is south of Hamadan and west of Arak. These rugs share much with Sarouk rugs but they are more diverse and imaginative.
