$329.00

Super thick and heavy handmade Persian village carpet!

Description

Large village rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Iran.

Uncommon repeating floral pattern woven into very thick natural wool.

Very heavy and solid for its size.

Good overall condition with minimal signs of wear on the wool pile. There is some dye diffusion in the border. Not a perfect rectangle. Old tribal and village rugs, especially those woven from 100% natural wool, often pull out of square after many years..

Woven by a Qashqai weaver, the carpet displays stylized flowers on a crimson field.

A moderate amount of traditional abrash (variegation in color due to changes in the dye batch) in the red field. Abrash (from Turkish) creates a painterly effect on a tribal rug.

Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft — this is a heavy rug. It could work in a bedroom or a high foot traffic area of the home.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug.

The exact size is 7 ft. 10 in. by 5 ft. 3 in. 1970s.

The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century. Another confederation — the Khamseh (which means 5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.
