Description

Vibrant vintage tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Iran.

The carpet contains many large birds– probably peacocks –woven in orange and green. Additionally, there are remarkable creatures that look like a bit like a brontosaurus but are most likely camels.

Traditional Qashqai medallions with three in the center and one in each corner.

Excellent overall condition with only minor wear.

Besides the animals and birds, the rug has many small icons, stylized flowers, leaves, and tree-of-life motifs.

Crimson red and black are the primary colors with white, green, blue, orange, and gold.

Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug.

The exact size is 8 ft. 9 in. by 5 ft. 4 in. 1970s.

The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century. Another confederation — the Khamseh (which means 5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.

Shipping is $55 within the continental U.S.
