Description
Lovely vintage Persian village carpet with traditional Lilihan floral motif.
Very hard to find narrow runner that will fit most Western hallways. Straight and lays perfectly flat.
Condition is excellent with few signs of wear. There is some wear on the fringe on one end. (Check last photo of the back.) The other end is perfect.
Primary field color is brick red with subtle colors that include yellow, blue, rose, red, olive green and salmon.
Traditional Lilihan rugs are woven in villages in the Hamadan region by Armenian tribal weavers.
Natural wool on natural cotton. Exact size is 10 ft. by 2 ft. 10 in. 1940s – 1950s. Out of a European estate.
This rug is well crafted and solid, and can be used in a high foot traffic area. (A simple rug pad can prevent movement on slippery tile or wood floors with small rugs and runners, but probably unnecessary with this carpet.)
Persian Armenians have been the largest Christian minority in Iran, and estimates put their numbers at 150,000 to 300,000.
Although Lilihan rugs are commonly associated with Persian Armenian weavers, their design is popular with Azeri and Kurdish weavers, too.
Many of the Lilihan rugs have an ‘art deco’ look to them and are similar to Sarouk and Mahal rugs– especially from the 1920s and 1930s.
Shipping will be $43 within the continental U.S.
