Description
Amazing pictorial runner!
Based on the weaving technique, this is a Kurdish Hamadan rug from northwest Iran.
Each end presents a dramatic pair of lions, gazing toward the sides, their tongues prominent, appearing quite ferocious.
Above the lions are a pair of cartoonish figures mounted on horses (they look more like lizards, salamanders, or even dinosaurs — but undoubtedly horses), facing each other. Also above the lions is an iconic vase with a floral display; two reptilian looking wolves or foxes scale the sides of the vase, climbing toward the flowers.
A dramatic tableaux based on a traditional ‘royal hunting’ display, but depicted in a unique and imaginative way. All the iconic figures are rendered on a deep indigo blue field with a surrounding wide red border.
The rug shows little wear, the side cords and fringes are in excellent condition. The only flaw is the rug is not a perfect rectangle.
Exact size is 9 ft. 7 in. by 3 ft. 11 in. 1970s. Thick plush pile.
Shipping will be $43.
