Description

Vibrant tribal geometric rug from the Shiraz region of Southwest Iran. Intricate medallion motif.

Vivid colors including red, orange and green.

Persian weavers have been crafting these amazing carpets in village for centuries. Very Southwestern looking and similar to some Navajo rug weaving although completely independent.

This geometric motif is most common around the city of Shiraz and is typically woven by tribal groups such as the Qashqai and Khamseh Federation.

Very good overall condition with minor wear on the wool pile.

No holes or weakened areas.

Woven from 100% natural wool —including the warp and weft.

Photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug.

The exact size is 12 ft. 9 in. by 5 ft. 2 in. 1960s.

The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century.

Another confederation — the Khamseh (which means 5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.
