Description
Stately and elegant vintage Tabriz carpet from northern Iran, displaying their iconic floral motif. Many of their rugs display medallions and this is a less common iteration of the design.
Several shades of blue and green, including a mint green, with a red field, and light gold and ivory.
Overall condition is excellent with very little signs of wear — very impressive in a rug of this vintage. Fringes and side cords are also in very good shape.
This carpet is solid and perfectly suitable for a heavy foot traffic area of the home or under a table and chairs.
Last photo shows the back of the rug.
Wool pile on cotton warp and weft. Tabriz rugs are cut short by the weavers to showcase the marvelous details.
Exact size is 9 ft. 10 in. by 6 ft. 7 in. 1960s.
Tabriz produces a large number of handmade rugs — most of which are easy to distinguish from the carpets of other major rug weaving centers in Iran and Turkey.
Tabriz carpets are part of the Azerbaijan weaving tradition within modern Persia. Located in northwest Iran, Tabriz is the capital city of East Azerbaijan Province and is largely populated by ‘ethnic’ Azeri or Azerbaijanis. It is one of the oldest rug weaving centers in the world and makes a huge diversity of types of handmade rugs.
