Vintage tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Persia. These rugs are handwoven near Shiraz and Abadeh.
The carpet displays 5 Qashqai medallions and 4 blue horseheads! The horseheads are inspired by ancient statues in the city of Persepolis, which is near the summer grazing pastures of the tribal people.
Also tree of life motifs.Excellent condition. Very minor wear. Solid and well made. Out of a European estate
Woven from 100% natural wool and cotton. A traditional Qashqai tribal rug. As these were formerly nomadic people who raise sheep, they use their own locally produced natural wool.
This carpet was probably woven near Abadeh based on the design and type of cotton used for the warp.

The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century.
Another confederation — the Khamseh — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.
