Enchanting pictorial tribal gabbeh rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Iran.

Presentation of two horses or ponies on a field of un-dyed natural wool.

Charming 1950s – 1960s Qashqai tribal rug. 100% natural wool.

Condition is excellent with very light dye pickup around the orange. This is from diffusion during a village washing.

Other than the faint orange pickup, the rug is in fine condition with little signs of wear.

Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft, which is typical for Qashqai tribal pieces. As these were nomadic people who raised sheep, not farmers who grew cotton, they use their own locally produced natural wool. That tradition generally continues.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug.

The exact size is 7 ft. by 3 ft. 10 in.

The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century.

Another confederation — the Khamseh (5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.

Shipping is $43 within the continental U.S. It is a bulky and heavy rug for its size. Shipping with FedEx ground. Or possible free pickup near Stockton – Sacramento – San Andreas – East Bay Area with prior arrangement.
