    Description

Fabulous antique village wide runner from the Malayer or Mahal region of central Iran. Similar rugs include Sarouk and Mahal carpets.

Vivid floral medallion motif, one of the most common and timeless of the Persian designs, on a mottled brick red and salmon field.

Extensive village abrash, (changes in dye color across a spectrum of related colors). Abrash creates a painterly effect quite distinct from the formal monochromatic urban workshop carpets of Iran

Extraordinary use of color including the black medallions to highly the yellow and turquoise.

The rug is solid and can be used in a high foot traffic area such as a hall or near an entrance.

Very good overall condition with some modest wear in areas. A couple of small professional repairs show in photos.

Last photo with silver dollar shows the backside.

Malayer rugs are extremely well made and very durable. Similar to Sarouk and Mahal rugs but generally smaller and more varied and creative in execution.

Exact size is 10 ft. by 5 ft.

Wool woven onto cotton warp. 1930s – 1950s.
