Description
Huge vintage Persian Heriz carpet from Northwest Iran.
[Please contact me first if you are interested in this carpet. Because of the size and weight (around 150 pounds) I would prefer to sell locally in Arizona. However, I can ship it with FedEx and can give an accurate shipping quote based on your zip-code.]
The condition is excellent with no signs of wear on the wool pile. A thick and plush rug, it is also quite heavy. Some slight color lightening in one corner, probably from decades of sun exposure. But hardly noticeable. Outstanding condition for a rug of this age.
Side cords are in great condition. There is some wear on the fringes but for a 70-year old carpet — not much. The fringes are also generally quite white, indicating that the rug was washed fairly recently as they tend to yellow over the decades as a part of cellulose aging.
Out of a U.S. estate; originally purchased in the 1950s. Very difficult to find authentic Persian Heriz rugs at this expansive size.
Vintage and antique Heriz carpets are a great favorite of interior designers as they match beautifully with a range of decors. They are getting difficult to find at affordable prices, and many of the Heriz rugs currently available in the US are poorly made Indian copies.
Natural wool woven onto natural cotton. Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the back of the rug.
The rug can be used in a high foot traffic area of the home or under a table and chairs.
Main colors are multiple reds and blues, black, white, olive green, dark green, mint, salmon, and several other subtle shades.
Exact size is 15 ft. by 10 ft. 2 in. 1950s.
The Heriz or Serapi medallion design is one of the most popular in the world, and originated in the northwest of Persia. This motif favors a large central medallion and a wide elegant border.
These rugs are well known for their durability and have been popular with collectors for over a century. Natural wool woven onto natural cotton in the mountains of the Heriz Province.
This is an authentic Heriz rug from Persia. These rugs are produced in the villages scattered across the slopes of Mount Sabalan, northeast of Tabriz.
