Description
Surreal vintage tribal rug from the village of Nahavond in the Hamadan District of central Iran.
Excellent condition with very little signs of wear in the thick wool pile.
Nahavand rugs are like impressionistic or surreal paintings done in wool. Dark field colors with salmon, cream, rose, blue, reds, and blacks surrounding a central medallion. Classic abrash (variegation in dye color) in the field color.
The wide border features different design borders, encircling the rug.
Imagery includes horses, foliage, flowers, dogs, goats — and women with blue hair.
Heavy for its size.
A range of bold flowers and vines crisscross the carpet.
Village weavers from the area around Nahavond create distinctive carpets woven nowhere else in the world.
The weavers generally prefer dark colors in the center surrounded by tans, reds and lighter colors in the borders.
The intertwined vines and flowers make for a surreal scene, almost like a Salvador Dali or Chagall painting.
Mind-blowing tribal art for your floor! 1970s .
Striking Persian vintage handwoven medallion and icon laden village carpet.
Deep field colors with tribal abrash (variegation in colors like in a painting).
The cotton fringes and side cords are in excellent shape. No holes or weak areas.
Natural wool pile on cotton warp and weft.
Exact size is 9 ft. 10 in. by 5 ft.
Last photo with the antique Morgan silver dollar shows the back.
