Woven by the Qashqai of southwest Iran in the Zagros Mountains.

Woven from 100% natural wool as is typical of nomadic rugs from these region.

Exact size is 5 ft. 5 in. by 3 ft. 4 in. 1940s – 1950s.

Gabbeh rugs were woven by the Qashqai and related Persian tribal groups for local use. They generally have simplified field designs and basic color palettes, and were often used as sleeping rugs.

Gabbeh rugs are now one of the most popular and widely copied of all the Persian tribal rug motifs.

This Qashqai carpet shows the expected traditional minimalist motif and simplified color palette.
