Amazing vintage Lenkoran Caucasian motif runner in excellent condition.
Unusual colors with ample green, reds, teal, and golds on a black and dark blue field.
Decorated with black, red, and light blue birds and numerous geometric icons. Faint color diffusion into the border on one end.
Minimal signs of wear except on the wool pile. There is a one inch square professional repair along one edge (photo included). The fringes and side cords are in excellent shape.
Natural wool on cotton warp. 1960s.
Exact size is 10 ft. 7 in. by 3 ft. 10 in.
The runner can be used in a high foot traffic area of the home. Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of carpet.
Lenkoran (also spelled Lankaran, Lenkeran, Lencoran ) is located on the Caspian on the southeast corner of Azerbaijan. The Lenkoran rug characteristically has a series of “tortoise” figures, represented as repeating medallions down the center of the carpet. The ground or field color is usually dark.
