Description

Elegant vintage Tabatabai Tabriz runner from northern Iran. Difficult to find long and narrow runner that will fit in most hallways.

Medallion and floral motif with pastel or light greens and apricot in the field colors.

Tabriz carpets can display many different unique designs but most of the time the pattern in a Tabatabaie rug is filled with dense floral motifs, including large palmettes, vases, foliage, and small flowers. Garden elements are scattered into the weaving with wild profusion.

The quality is exceptional in Tabatabai Tabriz handmade carpets.

Excellent overall condition with very little signs of wear. Very thick wool pile. A densely woven and heavy rug.

This is a very solid and rigid rug that can be used in a high foot traffic hallway.

Wool pile on cotton warp and weft. The long cotton fringes and side cords are in fantastic condition.

Exact size is 12 ft. (that’s including the cotton fringe) by 2 ft. 9 in. 1960s – 1970s.

Tabriz produces a large number of handmade rugs — most of which are easy to distinguish from the carpets of other major rug weaving centers in Iran and Turkey.

Tabriz carpets are part of the Azerbaijan weaving tradition within modern Persia. Located in northwest Iran, Tabriz is the capital city of East Azerbaijan Province and is largely populated by ‘ethnic’ Azeri or Azerbaijanis. It is one of the oldest rug weaving centers in the world and makes a huge diversity of types of handmade rugs.

The rugs of Tabriz — and especially the Tabatabie Tabriz — are among the most beautiful and most desirable of Persian rugs, and have been manufactured in the Azeri speaking area of Northern Iran continuously for centuries.

Shipping will be $69 within the continental U.S. It’s a very heavy rug.               Free pickup in Northern California — East Bay Area — is a possible option. Contact me to check on options.
