Description
Vibrant blue and red geometric rug featuring stylized flowers, an elaborate central medallion, white birds, possibly doves deftly woven into the floral scenery!
Additional colors include yellow, white, orange, rose and light purple grape.
The carpet was handwoven in the Hamadan district, which consists of a constellation of villages in central Iran that produce many of the finest tribal and geometric rugs in the world.
Condition is excellent with some scattered minor wear from normal use. The fringes and side cords are in fine condition.
The changes of color in the field due to changes in related wool dye batches are known as abrash, and they create a deliberate painterly effect much desired in authentic village and tribal rugs.
Last photo with the Morgan silver dollar shows the back of the rug.
Vivacious village rug with a unique and artistic medallion motif and saturated colors. This rug will enliven even the dullest old room.
This carpet can be placed in a high foot traffic area of the home.
The exact size is 9 ft. by 5 ft. 1960s – 1970s.
Natural wool pile on cotton warp.
Small Persian flags are woven into the rug although they should have the white band in the center to match the tri-color flag of Iran. (Penultimate photo)
