Charming old vintage tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Iran.
Good overall condition with even wear across the wool pile. No holes or weakened areas.
Despite the wear, this carpet is quite solid and would work extremely wool in a high foot traffic area of the home.
A geometric rug woven with traditional Qashqai medallions, as well as birds, stylized flowers, leaves and several traditional tribal icons.
Red, green, gray, white, yellow, blue, and muted black, are the primary colors. The rug has some wonderful greens.
Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft.
Last photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug.
The exact size is 8 ft. 8 in. by 5 ft. 5 in. 1940s – 1950s.
The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century. Another confederation — the Khamseh (number 5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.
