Impressive vintage Lenkoran Caucasian motif runner in excellent condition.
Colors include ivory, black, red, and green. This is a very thick and solid carpet.
Decorated with black, red, and green birds– some with double heads — and numerous geometric icons. Stylized ram’s heads with horns are visible along side the more common birds. The double-headed birds may be inspired by the Russian double-headed imperial eagle.
Minimal signs of wear on the wool pile. A few small spots that are difficult to see and minimal color shift in the ivory white. Great condition for a vintage rug.
The fringes and side cords are in excellent shape.

Lenkoran (also spelled Lankaran, Lenkeran, Lencoran ) is located on the Caspian on the southeast corner of Azerbaijan. The Lenkoran rug characteristically has a series of “tortoise” figures, represented as repeating medallions down the center of the carpet. The ground or field color is usually dark.
