Description
Old geometric village runner from the Meshkin region of Northwest Iran. This borders Azerbaijan and the Shirvan carpet production region. Design and weaving is similar to Caucasian carpets.
Classic tribal motif often seen in both Caucasian and Persian rugs from this area. Colors include soft grape purple, brick reds, rose, black and sunset golds.
Copious tribal abrash, particularly in the reds. (Abrash is variegation in related colors do to switches in the dye batches. It creates a painterly effect in the rug like an oil painting.)
Meshkin rugs are similar to Sarabi runners although they typically use different field colors with Meshkin rugs opting for reds and dark blues versus tans for the Sarabi.
This runner is plush and fairly heavy for its size.
