Wonderful condition with no signs of wear. Dramatic royal hand to hand combat between lion and king. Pairs of male and female lions in each corner. The female lions (similar to white domestic cats) appear to be under attack by the male lions– echoing the center struggle. Fantastic abrash (color variegation from different dye batches) in the red field . Various birds and icons float around the center combat like mesmerized spectators.

This is a traditional Qashqai motif but rarely seen as they are the least common of the lion rugs. In regards to condition, artistic detail, and size –this is by far the best one that I’ve ever come across. (Out of my personal collection.)

This rug displays one of the most dramatic pictorial rug designs that you will encounter. Woven by the Qashqai in southwest Iran. 1970s. 100% wool. Impressive size at 8 ft, 2 in. by 5 ft. 4 in. Most of the Qashqai tribal rugs woven with this design are considerably smaller.

Price is $849.  Shipping will be $38 in continental U.S. Free pickup is an option.

HELLO. I was researching my Qashqai rug that I just purchased. It has a very similar motif with the warrior and the lion in the center, including the two lions orange and white in all corners and the twisted columns down the sides and the colors and details are very different.

I think our orange male lions are wearing checkered kaffehs.
Was this a common motif? They said mine was made in the 1990’s. Mine has tiny Iran flags woven in too among many other tiny animals.
    Are those winged creatures Griffins?
    Thank You,
    Jaki
