Description
Fantastic and extraordinary vintage tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Persia. These rugs are handwoven near the city of Shiraz and ancient city of Persepolis.
The carpet displays a triple medallion motif with intense flocks of birds, chickens, peacocks — and a couple of happy cats, and fantastic abrash! Tree-of-life motifs, plants, flowers as well.
Abrash is variegation in dye colors that allows the weaver to paint in wool.
Bold vibrant colors including purple, fuchsia, grape, ping, teal, orange and blue–as well as browns, tans, and cream colored wool.
Excellent condition! This 100% wool rug will flatten out on the floor — it was stored rolled up. No odors! No problems!
Fantastic old antique Persian Qashqai carpet. 1950s
Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft, which is typical for Qashqai tribal pieces. As these were nomadic people who raised sheep, not farmers who grew cotton, they used their own locally produced natural wool. That tradition generally continues.
Last photo with 1924 antique silver coin displays the back of the rug.
The exact size is 9 ft. 1 in. by 6 ft.
The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century.
Another confederation — the Khamseh — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.
