Description
Bold black, blue and red geometric rug featuring a quadruple medallion and traditional tribal weaving icons. Including tree-of-life designs.
The carpet as a Southwestern look to it — true of many Persian geometric rugs. The serrated diamonds are reminisicent of some Navajo weavings although woven in a traditional style in Iran.
Condition is very good with one notable issue. The side cords, which are added after the carpet is woven, are worn and could benefit from a re-wrap at some point. Rug is perfectly fine to use as is.
Minor wear on the runner itself. Just the side cords show real wear. Fringes are in great shape.
Village weavers work on these rugs over months or even years in their spare time and they don’t use ‘blueprints’ — often known as cartoons — to guide their weaving.
The carpet was handwoven in the Hamadan district, which consists of a constellation of villages in central Iran that produce many of the finest tribal and geometric rugs in the world.
The rug shows some abrash in the reds. This color variation in the field is due to changes in related wool dye batches are known as abrash, and they create a deliberate painterly effect much desired in authentic village and tribal rugs.
Last photo with the Morgan silver dollar shows the back of the rug.
