Vintage pictorial tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of Southwest Iran.
Primary images consist of multiple endearing birds and flowers. The rug will flatten out perfectly — it’s been rolled up so a little wavy in spots.
Overall condition is excellent with very litte signs of wear. However, there are some dye color pickups on the border around the orange. The rug was washed and the orange ‘bleed’ into the cream colored wool.
There are photos of the worst areas of dye pickup.
The overall layout of the birds and floral imagery is fabulous. Very upbeat and cheerful rug.
Woven from 100% natural wool — including the warp and weft, which is typical for Qashqai tribal pieces. As these were nomadic people who raised sheep, not farmers who grew cotton, they use their own locally produced natural wool. That tradition generally continues.
Last photo with Morgan silver dollar displays the back of the rug.
The exact size is 7 ft. 6 in. by 5 ft. 3 in.
The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century.
Another confederation — the Khamseh (5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of all of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.
Shipping is $55 within the continental U.S. It is a bulky and heavy rug for its size. Shipping with FedEx ground. Or possible free pickup near Stockton – Sacramento – San Andreas – East Bay Area with prior arrangement.
