SOLD — Persian Geometric Village Rug — 12 ft. 7 in. by 5 ft. 3 in. — $695

Vivid geometric tribal rug with red, blue, green, ivory, orange and black in a dazzling array around triple medallions. Expansive size at 12 ft. 7 in. by 5 ft. 3 in. — and 100 % natural wool. North Persian Kurdish or possibly Azerbaijan. Side cord is more like a Heriz or Sarab but the rug is all wool, and generally weavers use cotton for the warp in those areas. 1960s.

Some light wear and color abrash (variegation in color due to different dye batches). Faint fugitive dye in parts of the fringe. Fairly heavy rug but a softer weave so might not be perfect for a high foot traffic area. A simple mesh pad would help to hold it in place on slippery wood or tile floors. Fantastic village rug — out of my personal collection. Mind altering art for your floor!

Price is $695.     Shipping is $49 with free pickup an option.

Wonderful condition with no signs of wear. Dramatic royal hand to hand combat between lion and king. Pairs of male and female lions in each corner. The female lions (similar to white domestic cats) appear to be under attack by the male lions– echoing the center struggle. Fantastic abrash (color variegation from different dye batches) in the red field . Various birds and icons float around the center combat like mesmerized spectators.

This is a traditional Qashqai motif but rarely seen as they are the least common of the lion rugs. In regards to condition, artistic detail, and size –this is by far the best one that I’ve ever come across. (Out of my personal collection.)

This rug displays one of the most dramatic pictorial rug designs that you will encounter. Woven by the Qashqai in southwest Iran. 1970s. 100% wool. Impressive size at 8 ft, 2 in. by 5 ft. 4 in. Most of the Qashqai tribal rugs woven with this design are considerably smaller.

Price is $849.  Shipping will be $38 in continental U.S. Free pickup is an option.

Bold authentic Persian gabbeh rug woven by tribal Qashqai weavers. 100% natural wool. Thick and heavy! This is not one of the Indian knockoffs that are light and poorly woven but try to mimic traditional Persian pieces and their color palette.

Fairly square at 7 ft. 8 in. by 6 ft. 7 in. Excellent overall condition with little signs of wear. 1970s. This is a rug that could be placed in a high foot traffic area. Galloping Great Danes? No problem. This rug will hold its own. Kelim style ends are tucked and sewn underneath for protection.

Price is $659. Fairly heavy rug — shipping in continental U.S. is $69. Free pickup is an option, too.

Stunning old vintage tribal rug from Morocco. Based on colors and motif, this one is probably from the village of Rehamna. 100% natural wool with long tassels from the braided warp on one end (they are usually only on one end). 1940s. (There is an old faded export tag that looks like it can be translated to 1951 in the Gregorian calendar.)

The reds have muted from sunlight and aging on the top side. (see last photo which shows back folded over front) Floating asymmetrical diamonds and geometric icons against the red field. This is heavy and thick but a softer supple weave lacking rigidity– so not ideal for a high traffic area. Similar in respects to the traditional tribal Qashqai gabbeh rugs of Iran.

Professionally washed a couple of years ago and not used since being cleaned.

Sad to let this one go from my collection but have to find homes for some of these fabulous old carpets. Enchanted art for your floor! 10 ft. 8 in. by 5 ft. 5 in. (includes tassels in length).

Price is $750.   Shipping is $43 within the continental U.S.

Stunning tribal rug from the Zagros Mountains of southwest Iran. Fantastic geometric design with many intricate details. Traditional Qashqai medallions with tree of life motifs and multiple icons. Ivory, crimson, green, and black are the primary colors.

Four corner medallions surrounding a central ivory medallion on a crimson field. 100% natural wool. 1950s. Out of my personal collection.

Very good condition with only minimal signs of wear. A vibrant and powerful piece of tribal art work! Reasonably heavy and solid for its size so it can handle high foot traffic. Fantastic statement piece– dynamic art for your floor!

The Qashqai are a confederation of 5 distinct tribal groups who banded together in a political alliance in the 19th century. Another confederation — the Khamseh (which means 5 in Arabic) — formed in the 19th century as a counterbalance to the Qashqai. The rugs of these tribes are quite similar in many respects.

The size is 9 ft. by 5 ft. 5 in.

Price of this rug is $595. Shipping is $43 with an option of free pickup if you’re living close by.

Large fantastic Turkish rug woven with 100% natural ‘kork’ wool. Excellent condition with no signs of wear anywhere. Wool retains its high lanolin content; the colors are bold but softer than they appear in the photos. Red field is more of a coral than a crimson. Long fringes are in perfect condition. The size is 12 ft. 7 in. (including the fringe) and 8 ft. 6 in. wide. About 12 ft. in length without the fringe.

Styled after ancient Seljuk carpets. There is also a town near Ephesus named Seljuk. (Also spelled Seljuq and in Turkish Selcuk –with a ch sound.) The Seljuk dynasty was one of the great formative civilizations of Anatolia.

“The Anatolian Seljuks were the founders of the first true Turkish state in Asia Minor. The Seljuks of Anatolia were responsible for one of the richest and most inventive periods in Turkish culture. They ruled over most of Turkey for almost two centuries, between the 11-13th centuries, from their capital in Konya. During that time, their refined, enlightened culture flourished throughout most of Turkey.”

The rug is soft and fairly thick. It came out of a high end rug gallery collection but has been in storage for the last 15 years or so. Fabulous art for the floor!

This rug is on sale for $779. Free pickup is an option in the San Francisco Bay Area — including Oakland and Berkeley — or Monterey. Within the continental U.S., shipping will be $99.
