Description

Traditional antique Persian garden panel rug motif with stylized flowers, garden scenes, and stately cypress trees.

This is the immemorial version of the garden rug with tile windows, elegant wide borders, and repeating rustic scenes of nature and floral splendor.

Dyes appear all natural. Out of a European estate.

Impressive use of multiple design elements and bold colors. Tightly woven.

This was woven by a Bakhtiari tribal weaver in the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province of western Iran.

Condition is excellent with signs of minor scattered wear — shown in closeup photos. Side cords and fringes are in very good shape with minor wear on both.

Couple very small spots on the rug that would come out in any future wash. No odors. (See penultimate photo)

Extremely solid and well crafted rug that can be used in a high foot traffic area of the house.

Pleasing well-balanced colors including yellow, white, brick red, green, turquoise, black, ivory, and blue.

The garden panel motif is also known as a ‘khesti’ motif, and dates back several centuries in Iran. The Bakhtiari are masters of the design, but it is also woven by the Luri and the Qashqai, and occasionally in the cities of Qom and Tabriz.

Exact size is 10 ft. 5 in. by 7 ft. 2 in. Wool pile on cotton warp. 1950s. Out of a European Estate.

Last photo with Morgan silver dollar shows the backside of the carpet.

The Bakhtiari tribe, numbering 800,000, inhabit an area of 67,000 sq. km that straddles the central Zagros Mountains in Iran. Although only about a third of the tribe is nomadic (the rest are settled agriculturists), the nomads embody the Bakhtiari cultural ideals.
